Salvation was a mystery to the world for thousands of years. The Apostle Paul by divine inspiration and revelation masterfully articulates just how God saved his people. In this series, we hope God will reveal this mystery to you as he did Paul.
Week 1: The Great Exchange
Exchanges are made daily, from emails to purchases of all kinds of goods. Most of those exchanges are made based on a value system. The first chapter captures how mankind repeatedly stated that we don’t want God. The Gospel alone changes this attitude!
Week 2: The Justice of God (Romans 2)
God alone is just; our judgment is skewed by prejudices and preferences. The second chapter speaks to our inability to judge rightly and establishes God as the perfect judge. Make no mistake, he will judge all who have done wrong in his sight.
Week 3: The Depth of our Sin (Romans 3)
All, not some, have sinned against God; all, not some are guilty before him. The third chapter highlights the depth of our sin and establishes God alone is the justifier for all who have faith in Jesus Christ (v26).
Week 4: Justified by Faith (Romans 4)
While our thoughts, actions, and motives have made us guilty before God no amount of change can undo the wrong we have done. The fourth chapter declares that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to be justified.
Week 5: Peace with God (Romans 5)
We can breathe easy as we are no longer an enemy of God; we have been justified (made right with God). The fifth chapter illustrates how one man (Adam) brought sin and death while through grace a second man (Jesus) brought peace and eternal life.
Week 6: Sin Dies (Romans 6)
Christ’s death and resurrection dethroned the power of sin and death in a believer’s life. The sixth chapter proclaims that sin no longer has dominion over us and presents the truth that our lives belong to God, who is our new master.
Week 7: Under Grace (Romans 7)
God’s law is perfect and is the highest standard in all of the universe, to which only he can uphold. Thanks be to God that in the seventh chapter God’s word describes us as dead to the law and under grace.
Week 8: No Condemnation (Romans 8)
It’s true God does not hold any wrong done by a believer against him. Christ made us right with God, and we were adopted into his family. The eighth chapter reinforces this truth with many layers of truth.
Week 9: Chosen to Choose (Romans 9)
God is compassionate and merciful as millions of believers have experienced his mercy and grace. The ninth chapter captures the weight God carries in determining just whom will be forgiven.
Week 10: Show and Tell (Romans 10)
Salvation depends on God and his word reaching into the hearts of unbelievers. The tenth chapter reinforces that God has chosen his people to be his megaphone. As salvation comes by hearing God’s word, and it’s our responsibility to share with everyone.
Week 11: The Riddle (Romans 11)
The Bible begins with God choosing a people (Israel) to reveal Himself to the world. The eleventh chapter contains the greatest mystery the world has ever seen, how did the Gentiles come to worship Abraham’s God? God’s ways are higher than ours.
Week 12: The Gifts that Empower Sacrifice (Romans 12)
Our calling is to live sacrificially; we have been empowered to live out the Christian faith. The twelfth chapter describes in detail what a Spirit-led life looks like.
Week 13: Submitting to God’s Leader (Romans 13)
Evil leaders rise, the flesh screams for justice, the neck stiffens, the mind wants to revolt. The thirteenth chapter teaches us that submitting to leaders is submission to the Lord, regardless of what you think of them personally.
Week 14: Beliefs, Convictions, and Opinions (Romans 14)
Many things shape our decisions to partake or abstain. Somehow what matters most gets lost in our personal convictions. The fourteenth chapter teaches us not to judge a person by the choices they make.
Week 15: Unified Voice (Romans 15)
So much noise in the world, so many opportunities for division among us. The fifteenth chapter briefly explains how the body of Christ should be one unified voice. A simple formula is given, seek to please your neighbor (v2). Then we will with one unified voice bring glory to God (v6).
Week 16: Guard Your Appetite (Romans 16)
Jesus Christ defeated Satan on the cross; he has no victory in eternity, his head will roll! The Lake of Fire is his future. His influence today is limited by God, and in today’s message, we will hear how God can crush Satan’s power in our lives.
