5 Days to Defeat Temptation
Day 1: Understanding Temptation
- James 1:13-15: "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone. But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."
Discussion Questions:
1. According to these verses, where does temptation originate from?
2. How can understanding the process of temptation help us in resisting it?
Day 2: Jesus' Temptation in the Wilderness
- Matthew 4:1-11: The account of Jesus being tempted by the devil in the wilderness.
Discussion Questions:
1. How did Jesus respond to each temptation? What can we learn from His example?
2. What strategies did Jesus use to resist the devil's temptations, and how can we apply them in our own lives?
Day 3: Overcoming Temptation
- 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
Discussion Questions:
1. How does this verse offer hope and encouragement in the face of temptation?
2. How can we actively seek and utilize the "way out" that God provides when we are tempted?
Day 4: Fleeing Temptation
- 1 Corinthians 6:18: "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body."
Discussion Questions:
1. Why is it important to flee from certain temptations rather than trying to resist them?
2. What practical steps can we take to actively flee from temptation in our daily lives?
Day 5: Resisting the Devil
- 1 Peter 5:8-9: "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings."
Discussion Questions:
1. How can being alert and of sober mind help us in resisting the devil's schemes?
2. In what ways can standing firm in our faith and seeking support from other believers help us resist the devil's attacks?
- James 1:13-15: "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone.
